Master Coaching helps students achieve their maximum potential. However, there are many factors involved in pursuing this goal. Some of these factors are beyond our control and fall within the sphere of the family and the child’s own personal ambitions.
Five important guide posts to success are:
1. Self Image
A child will only achieve the results that he or she realistically expects. Parents need to take advantage of every opportunity to raise their child’s level of expectation. Genuine praise and encouragement can work miracles. Sarcasm and negative comments can destroy a child’s confidence, ruining hours of study and application.
2. Goals and Objectives
Children should always aim for excellence and be continually moving in this direction. Interim, more attainable goals, can be set and reached along the way (eg. placing in the top half of the class or being promoted to the class above). For further information see Study Tips and Useful Strategies for Students.
3. Homework
Homework is an important part of learning. Often ideas and concepts explained at school or coaching are only fully mastered and understood later. Recall of prior work is key. Every child should do some homework regularly. Students enrolled at Master Coaching are given weekly homework to reinforce the coaching lesson. In mathematics, revision assignments are set and marked, providing you with valuable feedback.
4. Study Habits, Routines and Setting
It is important children develop a good ‘work-study and recreational routine’, which allows them to make the best use of their time. Valuable ime is lost when students cannot organise their notes or study habits. Neatness and correct setting out procedures are especially important. A child’s workbook is their study book. Television, radio and loud music are unwelcome distractions, reducing study time efficientcy to less than 20%. (Soft background music may help if it does not intrude into the conscious state.) Master Coaching Colleges offer great tips for study and learning. Did you know that people who cross their feet in examinations can make up to 20% more errors! Our coaching sessions not only deliver the learning, but how to apply this to achieve realistic goals, such as better marks in assessments and exams. Many of our centres conduct specialised study technique courses to maximise exam results.
5. Learning Styles
Your child will remember and organise what they have learnt through one, or a combination of, three learning styles.
Readers (~60% of the population) learn primarily through reading information. The Of the remainder, the majority are Auditory (hearing) Learners. Have you noticed your child talking or mumbling when reading? Perhaps they need to be encouraged to learn auditory learning techniques. The Kinaesthetic Learner needs to manipulate information in order to remember and learn. Master Coaching sessions involve all three methods of learning so that your child will experience the learning style(s) which best help their retention of information and learning.
